Bruins Win Open and Novice Races at Head of the Marina

Marina del Rey, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team competed at the Head of the Marina on Saturday, Nov. 1, hosted by the California Yacht Club. The Bruins won both the Women's Open Eight and Women's Novice Eight competitions.

The UCLA women's varsity eight completed the three-mile course around the marina in 18:56.00, to win the Women's Open Eight competition by over 90 seconds. Both California and the UCLA second varsity eight recorded a time of 20:34.00 to tie for second.

The UCLA varsity lineup consisted of Jessica Rogers (stroke), Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Dawn Regan, Monica Grova, Kelsey Hicks, Shannon Packer, Kristin Bixel, Irene Condella (bow), and Megan Pangacian (cox).

The Bruins entered three novice squads in the Women's Novice Eight competition. UCLA 'A' completed the course in 21:31.00 to win the event. California 'A' (22:55.00) finished next, followed by Loyola Marymount (23:14.00) and California 'B' (25:27.00). The UCLA 'B' and 'C' squads tied for fifth, each recording a time of 26:56.00.
