The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team won its third straight Pacific-10 title Wednesday, defeating Arizona State by one stroke at the Oro Valley Country Club near Tucson.

The Bruins, who began the day with an eight-stroke lead, posted a 13-over par score of 301 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 879 (+15). The third-ranked Sun Devils compiled a team score of 294 (+6) for a three-round score of 880 (+16). USC was third at 891 (+27), followed by California at 896 (+32). Host Arizona placed fifth at 907 (+43), Washington was sixth at 910 (+46). Stanford was seventh at 912 (+48), Oregon State eighth at 920 (56), Washington State ninth at 928 (+64) and Oregon 10th at 945 (+81).

Under Coach Carrie Forsyth the Bruins have won three straight conference titles for the first time in the program's history. They tied Arizona (2000-02) as one of three Pac-10 teams to win at least three straight league titles. Arizona State (1993-96) is the only conference team to win four league titles in a row.

The 2006 conference championship represents the Bruins' fifth in the 20-year history of the tournament. Both Arizona and ASU have won six.

"... I want to congratulate my team," said Forsyth. "We lost one of our top players (Hannah Jun) before the season in an accident, and she couldn't participate with us this season. I want to dedicate this championship to Hannah. I want to thank this team for putting all their heart in to this season. I am so proud of them."

Three UCLA players finished among the Top 10 individuals. Freshman Tiffany Joh tied for third place at even par 216 after posting a 73 (+1) on Wednesday. Sophomore Amie Cochran and freshman Jane Park tied for sixth at 220 (+4). Cochran, the second round leader, posted a 79 (+7) in the final round. Park had a 73 (+1). Senior Susie Mathews carded a 78 (+6) in the last round and tied for 19th at 227 (+11). Freshman Ryann O'Toole tied for 28th at 229 (+13) after signing for a 77 (+5).

"It was a rough day for me, honestly, said Joh. "The wind was blowing on the last few holes, the greens firmed up and the pins were tough. I just had to grind out there."
