CORVALLIS, ORE. - UCLA won its fourth straight Pac-10 game on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore., as the Bruins (33-7, 6-6 Pac-10) defeated Oregon State (39-20, 3-11 Pac-10) by a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman pitcher Lisa Dodd pitched a one-hit shutout, improving her record in the circle to 13-2 on the season.

Oregon State threatened to open the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, as Brianne McGowan led off the inning with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sherina Galvan. A single roped back through the circle hit by Alana Mendoza gave the Beavers runners on the corners, but Bruin starting pitcher Lisa Dodd struck out Adrienne Alo to end the inning with the game still scoreless.

UCLA's first hit of the game came in the top of the fourth inning, when Claire Sua dropped a single into center field before being replaced by pinch runner Ashley Herrera. Herrera went to second base on a hit-and-run where Jodie Legaspi was thrown out at first base, and the Bruins added another baserunner when Emily Zaplatosch drew a two-out walk. Lisa Dodd very nearly helped her own cause, but OSU center fielder Natalie Johnson was able to come up with the diving catch in shallow center field to end the inning with the game still scoreless.

In the top of the sixth inning, Andrea Duran led off the inning for the Bruins with a long single just fair down the left field line. Duran went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caitlin Benyi. The Beavers chose to intentionally walk Claire Sua, bringing Jodie Legaspi to the plate. Legaspi connected on a single to shallow right field, but it was enough to score Duran, who avoided the tag at the plate for the first run of the game. After Emily Zaplatosch flied out for the second out of the inning, Lisa Dodd hit a ground ball to the right side of the Beaver infield that was mis-handled and snaked into the left field grass, allowing Claire Sua to score, giving UCLA a 2-0 lead after five and a half innings.

That was all the offense that Dodd would need, as she completed the one-hit shutout by retiring six of the final seven batters of the game. Dodd finished with five strikeouts and two walks for her second seven-inning one-hitter of the season.

The Bruins and Beavers return to action on Sunday at 1 pm for the final game of the weekend series.
