Late Saturday night, the second-ranked UCLA Gymnastics team earned a spot in the NCAA Championships after winning the NCAA Region 1 meet. Sunday morning, the Bruins found out who they would face in the preliminaries for the right to advance to the Super Six Team Finals, a feat UCLA has accomplished every year since the inception of the Super Six format.
In a draw conducted by the NCAA Office, UCLA was placed in the evening session (7:00 pm local time) of the Apr. 13 preliminaries, along with top-ranked Michigan, fifth-ranked Nebraska, eighth-ranked Iowa State, 11th-ranked BYU and 14th-ranked Penn State.
Third-ranked Georgia, fourth-ranked Utah, sixth-ranked Alabama, seventh-ranked LSU, ninth-ranked West Virginia and 20th-ranked Oregon State will compete in the 1:00 pm afternoon session.
The top three teams in each session will advance to the Super Six Team Finals on Friday, Apr. 14 at 7:00 pm.
Rotation draws also took place Sunday, with UCLA drawing the balance beam as its first rotation. From there, the Bruins will have a bye, then move to floor, vault, another bye, then end the meet on the uneven bars.
The Bruins used this rotation order at the Pac-10 Championships Mar. 18 and scored a 197.7 to win the conference title.
The NCAA Championships will be held Apr. 13-15 in Boise, ID.
