Fresno, Calif. - Members of the UCLA men's tennis team enjoyed a perfect opening day at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic on Friday, as the Bruins had four singles players and two doubles teams advance.
In the Flight-A Singles Draw, Bruin freshman Michael Look defeated Fresno Pacific's Mat Carroll, 6-4, 6-3 in his opening round match. Next up will be a meeting with Fresno State's Sergui Modoc in Saturday's quarterfinals. Sophomores Jeremy Drean and Mathieu Dehaine were also victorious in three sets. Drean defeated Pacific's Vladimir Zdrakovic, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Dehaine was a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 winner over San Diego's Mirza Koristovic. Drean next faces Daniel Chu of Washington. Dehaine will meet Fresno State's Charles Irie.
In the Flight-B Singles Draw, Bruin junior Jason Nguyen, who received a bye in the first round, defeated Fresno Pacific's Kyle Kropf, 6-0, 6-1. San Diego's Thomas Liversage awaits Nguyen in the quarterfinals.
Two doubles teams were also in action Friday. Dehaine and Look defeated San Diego's Oscar Plotnik/Jonas Mouly, 8-4 in the Flight-A Draw. Drean and Nguyen blanked Pacific's Ahad Ebrahim/Austin Kakar, 8-0 in the Flight-B Draw.
