Box Score

A late second-half goal by forward Yannick Reyering gave No. 3 Virginia a 1-0 victory over No. 10 UCLA in Charlottesville, VA Monday evening.

UCLA and Virginia played a fairly even game prior to the goal, with the Bruins recording 11 shots and eight corner kicks and Virginia totaling 15 shots with seven corner kicks. Goalkeepers Eric Reed of UCLA and Ryan Burke of Virginia each made four saves.

Each team had several opportunities to score in the last 20 minutes of the game. The Bruins had two chances in the 67th minute, but Jason Leopoldo's shot was saved by Burke, and Mike Zaher's shot from 20 yards out hit the right post 30 seconds later. In the 74th minute, Sal Zizzo headed a ball just wide, then three minutes later, Reyering missed high on a breakaway. Virginia's goal came at 88:17 with a 10-yard shot by Reyering off a Nico Colaluca corner kick.

Virginia has yet to allow a goal in four regular season and two exhibition games this season.

The Bruins drop to 0-2-1, while Virginia improves to 4-0-0.

The game was UCLA's second on the road in the last three days against a Top 5 team and the end of a lengthy road trip that saw the Bruins' games at Maryland and at Virginia each get delayed a day due to inclement weather. UCLA will face another challenge this weekend with a Sept. 8 road matchup against 2005 NCAA finalist New Mexico.
