LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UCLA maintained its No. 3 ranking in this week's American Water Polo Coaches' Association national poll, published Wednesday. The Bruins (4-1 overall, 2-0 MPSF) defeated No. 10 Pacific in a conference match 15-5 Saturday before losing to top-ranked Stanford 10-6 on Sunday.
Stanford (4-0, 2-0) earned all five first-place votes for the first time this season. The Cardinal beat second-ranked USC 10-5 on Saturday before defeating UCLA in their nonleague matchup. Surprisingly, there were no changes to the poll's Top 10. Pepperdine and California rounded out the top five. Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, and Pacific comprise the next five.
This weekend, UCLA hosts USC (3-1, 3-1) Saturday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center (SCRC) in a pivotal MPSF league match. Both teams are in a virtual tie with Stanford for the league lead. Opening sprint will be at 12 p.m.
Sunday morning, UCLA will host its annual Alumni exhibition match at 11 a.m. at SCRC. Admission to both of the weekend's matches is free to the public.
