NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- The UCLA Women's Rowing team had a strong presence at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival held on Sunday Nov. 7 . The Bruin's Varsity squad outdid last year's seventh place finish in the Women's Open Eight, by completing the race with a second place finish in a field of 23 collegiate entries.
The UCLA Women's Varsity 'A' squad finished the 2.7 mile course with a time of 17:05, falling only to crosstown rivals USC, who finished the past season with a number 12 national ranking. The Bruins improved from last year's time by 25 seconds. The UCLA Varsity 'B' team completed the course with a seventh place finish overall and a time of 17:56. Other Pac-10 rivals competing in the event were Stanford's and Cal's Lightweight teams.

The Bruins will race once again on Saturday, Nov. 14, sending the Varsity 'A' team to the Head of the Lake Competition in Seattle, WA. This event will include top ranked competitors from around the nation, providing the Bruins with a taste of what is to come for the next season. The rowing season will start up once again on March 3rd with the Parent/Alumni Day and class race at Marina Del Rey.
