Cherry Hill, NJ - Senior UCLA rower Dawn Regan, competing as a member of the Vesper Boat Club, won bronze in the Women's Senior 8+ and finished fourth in the Women's Intermediate 8+ Finals at the USRowing National Championships on Saturday, July 26, 2003.
In the Women's Intermediate 8+ Final, Regan rowed the bow seat in the Vesper Boat Club's fourth place finish. The Minneapolis Rowing Club was crowned national champion in the event, finishing the 2,000m course along the Cooper River in 6:36:13. Riverside Boat Club placed second in 6:39:00, followed by Nereid Boat Club in 6:41:77, Vesper Boat Club in 6:41:81, Wisconsin Women's Development Camp in 6:45:60, and US Junior Women's Development Camp in 6:59:27.
In the Women's Senior 8+ Final, Regan rowed the three seat in Vesper Boat Club's third place showing. The Riverside Riverside Boat Club won the event in 6:36:06, followed by Minneapolis Rowing Club in 6:40:09, Vesper Boat Club in 6:41:91, New York Athletic Club in 6:46:04, and Community Rowing, Inc. in 6:57:47.
The 132nd running of the USRowing National Championship Regatta ran from July 22-27. The six-day regatta played host to more than 1,900 elite, senior, intermediate, and junior-level athletes representing 104 clubs from across the country as well as Canada, Mexico, and Peru. Rowers competed for titles in 100 events and national champions were crowned in all categories.
UCLA assistant coach Bill Zack was also present at the USRowing National Championships as one of the three co-coaches of the US Junior Women's National Team Development Camp. Zack's teams recorded medal finishes in the Junior B (16 and under) Fours, Junior B Eights, and Junior Eights (18 and under).
