Bruins Hold UCSB, LBSU Scoreless at Stacy Winsberg Tournament
The Bruins shut out all comers at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament last weekend at Easton Stadium on UCLA's campus. Saturday's schedule included a doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara. In the day's opener, Keira Goerl struck out five and allowed just one hit as the Bruins took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning before exploding for a seven-run inning to invoke the mercy rule with a 10-0 lead. In that big inning, seven of the eight Bruins to step to the plate ran the bases, including a three-run home run by Andrea Duran and a grand slam home run by Lisa Dodd, her fifth HR and second slam of the 2004 season.

In the nightcap, Dodd stepped into the circle and pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out six batters without issuing a walk. The Bruin bats remained scorching hot, as UCLA hit four home runs in the contest. Sunday's game against Long Beach State remained scoreless through three and a half innings before the Bruins pushed across a run in the fourth inning as Emily Zaplatosch doubled and was replaced by pinch-runner Amanda Simpson, who scored on a double by designated player Whitney Holum. In the fifth, the Bruins posted three additional runs on a two-run home run by Ramos and an RBI double by Legaspi. Goerl earned the win in the circle, striking out three and earning her ninth victory of the season with her fifth shutout of the season.

Stephanie Ramos Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Ramos, from Elk Grove, Calif., hit .800 for the week at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, going 8-for-10 with four runs scored, a double, three home runs, six RBI, a 1.800 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage. Her totals for hits, HR, RBI, SLG% and OB% led the team for the weekend as the Bruins improved to 16-0 on the year. In UCLA's first game of the weekend against UCSB, Ramos went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. In the second game of the day, she doubled in her first at-bat of the game, then homered in consecutive at-bats in the third and fifth innings before finishing her day at the plate with a walk in the sixth inning. In that game, she finished with a 3-for-3 day with two runs scored, three RBI and a walk. On Sunday, Ramos went 3-for-4 with a home run, her fifth of the season, and two singles.
