LOS ANGELES - UCLA women's soccer head coach Jillian Ellis announced the signing of six players to national letters of intent Thursday. Included in the class is the nation's No. 1 recruit Lauren Cheney, along with U.S. Youth National Team players Lauren Wilmoth, Lauren Switzer and Kristina Larsen. California standouts Dea Cook and Britney Scannell are also included in the group. Five of the six players are ranked among the top-50 recruits in the country according to Soccer Buzz Magazine.

"This is yet another fantastic class and definitely one of the strongest in our program's history," said Ellis, who has guided the Bruins to the NCAA Final the last two years. "We only graduated two players, therefore we didn't recruit a large class. Instead, we focused on the specific needs of our program. These players have been hand picked to enhance the areas of our lineup that we felt we needed to strengthen. I'm excited that these high-caliber athletes have decided to call UCLA home for the next four years."

It marks the second year in a row that UCLA has landed the nation's No. 1 recruit, as Canada's Kara Lang signed with the Bruins in 2005.
