Northridge, CA - In its first two games of the season, the Bruin women's water polo team defeated both Cal State Bakersfield and No. 18 Cal State Northridge with ease. UCLA defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 22-4 in the first game of the day and an hour and a half later beat Cal State Northridge, 20-2. The 22 goal count is the second highest goal total that any UCLA women's water polo team has ever scored. Last year in the second game of the season, the Bruins scored 22 against Colorado State.

Bakersfield scored its first goal with 4:25 left in the first quarter. UCLA led 12-1 at half time. The Bruins shut down Bakersfield's offense until the third quarter of the game, when Jamie Baker netted a goal for the Roadrunners. CSUB would score two more goals in the fourth quarter. UCLA's Kelly Rulon was the leading scorer of the match with five goals. Last season, no Bruin had more than four goals in a game.

UCLA vs. Cal State Northridge
The Bruins scored the first nine goals versus the Matador, six of them in the first quarter of play. Brookes put in the Matadors first goal at the 2:18 mark of the second quarter. The Bruins held an 11-1 half time lead. Northridge would not score again until 2:59 remained in the third quarter. UCLA would shut out the Matadors for the rest of the game. Thalia Munro led all Bruins, scoring four goals in the match. Allison Brookes scored CSUN's only goals in the match.
