Bruins Runnerup at Husky Dino Cup

Defending NCAA mens volleyball champion UCLA took runnerup honors in the 12th Annual Husky Dino Cup Tournament over the weekend, hosted by the University of Calgary. In advancing to the final, the Bruins defeated Long Beach State 3-0 and host Calgary 3-0.

In the match against Long Beach Seth Champi led the Bruins with 17 kills, eight digs and one ace. Senior Fred Robins added 13 kills and 11 digs.

Robins spiked a team high 13 kills and dug nine balls in the 15-8, 15-9, 15-6 victory over Calgary. Junior Evan Thatcher added 11 kills.

In the 3-2 championship match loss to Winnepeg, the Bruins were led by Thatchers 24 kills and 18 digs. Robins also recorded 18 digs and spiked 15 kills.

Robins, Thatcher and setter Brandon Taliaferro were selected to the All-Tournament team.
