LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UCLA's men's water polo team will begin the 2005 season exactly where it left off in 2004: as the top ranked team in the country. After winning the 2004 NCAA title, the Bruins have been awarded the No. 1 spot in the 2005 Men's Collegiate Pre-Season Water Polo Top-20 Poll, released Wednesday.

With 97 total points, UCLA stands ahead of t-No. 2 Cal (91 points), t-No.2 USC (91 points) and No. 4 Stanford (90 points) in the poll's top four spots.

Earlier in the week, UCLA was selected to win the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in the conference's pre-season coaches' poll.

UCLA begins the defense of its 2004 crown this Saturday at the BYU Hawaii Tournament in Laie, Hawaii.
