Los Angeles - The UCLA men's and women's tennis teams dropped a heartbreaker Friday, falling to Mississippi State, 25-24 in the opening day of competition at the 2000 World Team Tennis National Collegiate Championships at Stanford University.
UCLA took three of five matches from Mississippi State, however still lost because points are awarded by number of games won. This is the first time ever that the UCLA men and women are competing as one squad.
With the score tied at 24-24, the match came down to a mixed doubles supertiebreaker worth one point. In the supertiebreaker, MSU's Marco Baron and Amelie Detriviere defeated UCLA's Chris Sands and Zana Zlebnik 7-1, clinching a 25-24 victory for the Bulldogs.
The Bruins return to action Friday night, taking on Virginia Commonwealth beginning at 3:00 p.m.
