Seattle, WA - The No. 15 UCLA women's tennis team fell to No. 7 Washington on Saturday afternoon, 6-1. The Huskies swept the doubles matches and won at singles positions two through six.
UCLA's point came on singles court one, where No. 12 Sara Walker knocked off No. 37 Dea Sumantri, 7-5, 4-6, (14-12). On court two, No. 47 Claire Carter defeated No. 71 Susi Wild 7-5, 6-2, and Washington's Darija Klaic, No. 58 in the nation, took the first set 7-6(4) and was up 2-1 in the second set when Feriel Esseghir retired.
The Huskies were winners on the back three singles courts as well. Erin Boisclair took the first set from Sarah Gregg 6-1 and led the second set 3-1 before Gregg retired. On court five, Colleen Gray defeated Laura Gordon 6-1, 6-3, and on court six, Erin Hoe beat Anya Loncaric 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, No. 13 Carter and Klaic beat UCLA's Gordon and Walker, 8-3, while Washington's Gray and Sumantri defeated UCLA's Esseghir and Loncaric, 8-3, and the Huskies' Boisclair and Hoe defeated Gregg and Wild, 8-6.
UCLA will resume play on Friday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. against No. 1 Stanford before crossing the bay to Berkeley on Saturday, April 19 at noon against No. 4 California.
