CORVALLIS, Ore. - The third-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team completed its five-week, 15-match road swing with a perfect 15-0 record, finishing its opening weekend of Pac-10 play with a 30-21, 30-18, 30-14 victory at Oregon State. The Bruins are now 15-0 on the season and 2-0 in Pac-10 play.
UCLA hit .376 as a team for the match, led by senior middle blocker Nana Meriwether, who had 14 kills on an error-free 20 attacks for a .700 individual attack percentage. She added five block assists to record 16.5 points in the match.
Joining Meriwether in double-figures were Ali Daley, Kaitlin Sather and Katie Carter, who each had 11 kills and all hit .300 or better on the evening. Sophomore libero Jordan Smith had all three of UCLA's aces in the match and Nellie Spicer dished out 38 assists on the evening.
UCLA out-blocked the Beavers 10-4 but were narrowly out-dug 47-46. The Bruins held OSU to a meager .074 team attack percentage in the match. UCLA led throughout the final two games of the match and trailed only during the early portions of the opening game. After tying the score at 4-4 in game one, UCLA and Oregon State would be tied as late as 14-14 in that opening game, but the Bruins did not trail again at any point in the match.
Following a five-week 15-match season-opening road trip, UCLA will open its home schedule on Thursday night, September 28, with a 7 pm match against defending NCAA Champion Washington at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins will then face Washington State on Friday night, also at 7 pm in Pauley.
