Bruins Return To Pac-10 Action
The UCLA women's swimming and diving team returns to Pac-10 action on Fri., Jan. 26, and Sat., Jan. 29, when they travel to the Bay Area to face Stanford and Cal, respectively. Friday's meet at Stanford is set to begin at 1 pm, while the meet at Cal will begin at noon.
Divers Complete Bruin Invite In Impressive Fashion
The UCLA diving team hosted the Bruin Invitational this past weekend (Jan. 19-20) at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center with competitors from 11 universities participating. Events on Friday were the women's three-meter and men's one-meter, while Saturdy's events were the women's one-meter, men's three-meter and platform.
Senior Anne Baghramian led the Bruins on the first day of the invite, as she finished second on the three-meter, while Heidi Prosser posted a score of 453.80 to claim fourth place. All of UCLA's competitors finished among the top ten, Michelle Brown finished seventh, Kasey Reinhard was eighth and Liz Ackerman placed 10th.
Day two of the invitational saw two Bruins claim second place finishes, as Prosser scored 260.30 on the one-meter and Baghramian posted 355.20 in the platform. Ackerman also dove impressively after finishing third in the one-meter with 231.70. Brown put in a solid performance on the platform with a score of 326.90 to finish fourth.
UCLA Ranked No. 2 In Latest Poll
Head coach Cyndi Gallagher's women's swimming and diving team is the No. 2 ranked team in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll released on January 18. The Bruins received a total of 191 votes and two first place votes. Georgia, the top ranked team in the country, received 198 votes and six first place votes. Pac-10 schools Arizona and Stanford occupy the third and fourth spots, while Auburn is ranked No. 5.
