Box Score

Casey Janssen struckout 10 batters to lead UCLA (4-2) to 6-1 victory over Pacific (4-3) on a chilly night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. With the win, Janssen improved to 2-0 on the year.

The Huntington Beach native threw a career-high eight innings in the contest. He allowed only one run on six hits. In 18 innings of work this season, Janssen has allowed one run and struck out 27 batters.

On the offensive side, the Bruins got on the board early, scoring two runs in the second inning. Brandon Averill started the two-out rally with a single to left field, while Chris Denove singled a batter later. Both runners would score on a Preston Griffin double down the left field line.

UCLA stretched its advantage to five runs in the fifth inning. A one-out Griffin double got things going, while a double from Chad Concolino brought Griffin across home plate. Ryan McCarthy drove Concolino in with a single through the right side, while Billy Susdorf brought McCarthy in on a double to left.

The Bruins added an insurance run in the sixth when Averill's sacrifice fly brought in Brett McMillan, who had tripled to start the frame. After six, UCLA led 6-0.

Tiger Brandon Gottier scored Pacific's only run with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Kevin Brophy relieved Janssen in the ninth inning. He did not allow a hit and recorded one strikeout.

The Bruins and Tigers will face each other in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon. Due to weather concerns, Sunday's game was moved to Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Hector Ambriz (1-0) will start the first game, while junior Bryan Beck (0-0) will start the second.
