Los Angeles - The UCLA women's rowing team heads north this Saturday, April 20, to compete against Santa Clara University at the Stanford Invitational in Redwood Shores, Calif. The Bruins have entered four crews in Saturday's events -- the Varsity 8, JV 8, First Novice 8, and Second Novice 8. The day's events begin at 9:00 a.m., but the Bruins will dual the Broncos at 11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. with the Varsity and Novice races, respectively. In addition, the UCLA Second Novice crew will race the Stanford Lightweight 8 at 11:40 a.m.
The Bruins last competed against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, April 13, for the Karen Hock-Hjelm Cup, an annual dual between the two schools since 2001 in tribute to former LMU crew member, Karen Hock-Hjelm. The Bruin Novices finished 1-2 over the Lions, with the UCLA Novice 'A' crew winning by a decisive 23-second margin. In the Cup race, LMU topped the Bruin Varsity 8 by 8-seconds to retain the Karen Hock-Hjelm Cup for 2002.
The Broncos last competed at the San Diego Crew Classic on the weekend of April 6 and 7. Santa Clara concluded the weekend placing third in the Women's Collegiate Novice 3RD Level Finals and sixth in the Women's Cal Cup 3RD Level Finals.
