LOS ANGELES (AP) - Freshman Trevor Ariza scored 20 of his career-high 24 points in the second half and UCLA rallied to beat Oregon State 77-66 Friday night in both teams' Pac-10 opener.

The Bruins (5-3) appeared listless and trailed by 10 points to start the second half when Ariza sparked them. He scored their first six points of the half, followed Janou Rubin's 3-pointer with a dunk, then hit consecutive 3-pointers to give the Bruins a 47-42 lead.

UCLA point guard Cedric Bozeman left the game after playing 12 minutes because of an abdominal strain. He returned with 13:23 left in the second half and assisted on Ariza's fastbreak layin that capped 10 straight points by the Bruins.

Rubin scored all of his career-high 13 points in the second half to help the Bruins win their fourth straight conference opener. His 3-pointer gave UCLA a 56-46 lead with 11 minutes remaining.

The Beavers got back in the game on eight straight points to pull to 56-55. But Rubin reignited the Bruins with four consecutive points, Ariza and Ryan Hollins scored inside baskets, then Rubin hit his third 3-pointer for a 67-57 lead with 3:50 remaining.

UCLA shot 67 percent in the second half, despite the offensive woes of Bozeman and junior Dijon Thompson, who averages 15.6 points. Bozeman had three points and Thompson finished with six - his worst game in two years. He only had two points until scoring the Bruins' last two baskets in the final minute.

Chris Stephens led Oregon State with 16 points and David Lucas added 13.

The Beavers (6-5) lost their ninth straight Pac-10 opener. They ended a 14-game losing streak at Pauley Pavilion last season, the first time they swept the Los Angeles schools since 1988.

The Beavers shot 50 percent in the first half when the Bruins hit just 38 percent.
