UCLA Sends Three Athletes To World Junior T & F Championships

July 12, 2002

UCLA will send three athletes - redshirt freshman Jeremy Silverman (SP), freshman Monique Henderson (400m) and freshman Briona Reynolds (SP) - to the 2002 World Junior Track & Field Championships, held July 16-21 at Kingston, Jamaica.

All three athletes qualified for the World Juniors three weeks ago at the 2002 USA Junior meet (between the ages of 14-19 in the calendar year 2002), held at Stanford (June 21-23). The top two finishers in each event advanced to the upcoming World Junior Championships and will compete for the USA squad.

Bruin Men
Silverman, from Annville, PA (Annville-Cleona HS), at the USA Junior meet placed second in the shot put (63-5) and seventh in the discus (178-6). A true freshman this season, Silverman redshirted during the 2001-02 campaign. As a senior prepster in 2000-01, his high school best shot put mark of 65-4.50 was No. 4 on the U. S. high school chart.
