Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA sophomore forward Matt Taylor earned multiple honors this week, being named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 5-11, earning UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week acclaim and being selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week.
Taylor, from Irvine, Calif., scored two goals and recorded one assist as UCLA closed out the regular season with wins over Oregon State and No. 10 Washington last week. In the 1-0 victory over the Beavers, Taylor netted the game's lone goal for his second game-winner on the year. Against the Huskies, he keyed the Bruins' two comebacks. Taylor assisted on the goal that tied the game at 1-1 in the first half. He then scored on a bicycle kick with 1:26 left to play, sending the match into overtime. UCLA would win, 3-2 in OT.
Taylor's goals were his fourth and fifth of the season. He now ranks second on the team in scoring, with five goals and 12 points.
UCLA (10-6-4 overall, 5-2-1 Pac-10), which concluded regular-season play last weekend, must await its fate in the Pac-10 title race. Stanford (14-4-1, 4-1-1) has two matches remaining on its schedule, and with some help from the Cardinal's opponents, UCLA could clinch at least a share of the Pac-10 title.
This is the first weekly honor for Taylor and UCLA's eighth Pac-10 Player of the Week honor all-time.
