Swim Team in Fourth-Place After Day One of Pac-10 Championships

Results

At the end of day one of the Pac-10 Championships, the Bruin swim team stands in fourth-place with 102 points. California and Arizona are tied for first with 120 points each, while USC ended the day in third-place with 108 points.

The 200 Medley relay team of junior Katie Arnold, senior Eileen Seissen, junior Amy Thurman and freshman Anna Poteete placed fourth overall in a time of 1:40.25. Their time was an NCAA "B" qualifier, but they have already posted a faster time this season (1:40.59). Arizona won the race in an "A" time of 1:39.60.

In the 800 Free Relay, the Bruins placed fifth overall (7:18.61) with senior Kim Vandenberg leading off, followed by junior Katie Nelson, freshman Ellen Brooks and sophomore Shannon Hackett. Tonight's time dropped their season best by over five seconds (old best, 7:24.02), improving on their NCAA "B" cut time.

Tomorrow's action will feature the 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle Relay. The first day of the diving portion of the Pac-10 Championships, which are being held in Federal Way, WA, will also begin on Thursday with the 1M competition.
