EUGENE, Ore. - UCLA men's tennis player Tobias Clemens was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large Team released Thursday. His selection to the first team makes his eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Clemens, a senior from Bonn, Germany, currently owns a 3.32 grade point average and is majoring in Business Economics. He recently helped the Bruin men's tennis team advance to the finals at the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla. He is ranked No. 7 in the nation in singles, posting a 33-9 overall record this season. Clemens owns 119 career victories at UCLA, the most of any player in school history. He has played No. 1 singles the past three seasons and is a three-time All-American. Clemens was a third-team all-district VIII selection in 2003.
The at-large team encompasses the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling, and was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and the province of British Columbia. The all-district first team selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released June 15.
