The UCLA swim team defeated UC Santa Barbara 150.5-109.5 and Oregon State 184-76 on Saturday to open up the 2005-06 season 2-0. The meet, which took place in Santa Barbara saw the Bruins improve their all-time record against UCSB to 22-0 and against OSU to 5-0.
Three Bruin women posted multiple event wins on Saturday: senior Kim Vandenberg, junior Katie Arnold and sophomore Nicolette Teo. Vandenberg won the 200 Free and 500 Free, Arnold swam to victories in the 100 Back and 100 Free and Teo won the 100 and 200 Breast. Junior Jane Imagane also had a victory on Saturday, winning the 1000 Free in 10:08.47.
"Everyone swam in a lot of different events to get as much racing experience as possible," said Head Swim Coach Cyndi Gallagher. "We had a lot of good races today and UC Santa Barbara showed they were much improved from last year's meet. It was a great day for a meet, sunny and warm, and it was great to have so many parents make the trip to Santa Barbara to support our team."
Next weekend, the Bruins will head to Dallas, TX for the SMU Invitational. The divers will have their first competition of the season as they head to La Jolla, CA for a meet against UC San Diego and the University of San Diego.
