UCLA Men's Track and Field Heads to Arkansas for Tyson Invitational

The men's track and field team will travel to the site of the upcoming 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 12 as they compete in the Tyson Indoor in Fayetteville, AR. The team has had a successful indoor campaign and will look to continue qualifying athletes for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships March 10-12.

The No. 18 Bruins continue to post impressive times and marks in the indoor season. Senior Yoo Kim leads the team with an automatic NCAA indoor qualifying mark of 18-1 in the pole vault. Seven other Bruins and two relays have qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor. They include - senior Tony Golston in the 60m hurdles (7.85), junior Craig Everhart in the 400m (46.48), senior Nick Thornton in the 800m (1:48.72), sophomore David Shortenhaus in the pole vault (17-1.75), freshman John Caulfield (60-0.25), and juniors Jake Knight (59-2.75) and Jeremy Silverman (58-3) in the shot put. The 4x400m relay team of Denye' Versher, Thornton, Mario Bassani, and Everhart qualified in a time of 3:10.20, while the DMR team of Jon Rankin, Everhart, Martell Munguia, and Ben Aragon ran 9:35.45 to qualify.

With the MPSF Indoor Championships only weeks away, the Bruin men are poised for a top finish with several UCLA athletes ranked in the top-five in the MPSF. Golston (60m hurdles), Everhart (400m), Thornton (800m), Caulfield (SP), the DMR and the 4x400m currenly rank first in the conference. Other Bruins ranked in the top-five include - Jonathan Williams (5th, 60m hurdles), Everhart (2nd, 200m), Munguia (2nd, 800m), Aragon (2nd, Mile), Rankin (3rd, 3000m), Michael Johnson, Jr. (4th, TJ), Dominique Easterling (5th, TJ), Knight (2nd, SP; 4th, WT), Silverman (3rd, SP), Kim (2nd, PV) and Shortenhaus (3rd, PV).
