O'Hara Named Pac-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week

UCLA junior Tracy O'Hara is this week's (April 16) Pacific-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her victory in the pole vault at last Saturday's Bruin track meet at Drake Stadium vs. Nebraska and CS Northridge.

O'Hara won the women's pole vault with a mark of 13-9 1/4. It was her season-best, the No. 2 collegiate mark in the U. S. and an NCAA automatic qualifier. Her winning effort helped lead the Bruin women to triangular and dual scoring victories over Nebraska and CS Northridge.

From San Diego Rancho Bernardo HS, O'Hara has had an outstanding Bruin career in the women's pole vault. Last year as a sophomore, she won both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor titles and set the American collegiate indoor (14-6) and collegiate outdoor (14-7 1/4) records.

This season, O'Hara placed second (13-9 1/4) in the women's pole vault at the 2001 NCAA Indoor, helping the Bruins win their second consecutive team title.

Also nominated from UCLA for this week's Pac-10 honors included: Women's Track- freshman Adia McKinnon, from Flossmoor, IL, won the 200m (23.72, personal-best) and 400m (52.88, No. 6 on the current collegiate list, personal-best, NCAA provisional qualifier) and ran on both of UCLA's winning relays (4X100m, third leg, 45.25, 4X400m relay, opening leg, 3:41.03, season-best), Men's Track: senior Bryan Harrison, from Alpharetta, GA, won the 200m (20.88, season-best), placed second in the 100m (10.49, season-legal best) and ran the anchor leg on UCLA's winning 4X100m relay (39.96, No. 12(tie) mark in the U.S., season-best, NCAA provisional qualifier), Men's Field: sophomore Nate Marum, from Napa, won the javelin with a 228-11 (personal-best, leads the NCAA provisional list, mark is No. 7 in the U. S.).Harrison and Marum also helped lead the Bruin men to triangular and dual wins over Nebraska and CS Northridge.

This week, the Bruins will send athletes to the Pomona Invite (April 20), the Long Beach Invite (April 21) and to the Mt. SAC Relays (April 20-22).

Looking ahead, the annual dual meet between UCLA and USC will be held at the USC track on Saturday, May 5.
