Women's Soccer Places Four on NSCAA West Region Teams

Dec. 4, 2001

Los Angeles - Four UCLA women's soccer players were listed among the NSCAA West Region teams announced Tuesday.

Forward's Mary-Frances Monroe (Tariffville, Conn.) and Stephanie Rigamat (La Crescenta, Calif.) were two of the 11 selections on the first team. Rigamat led the Bruins in scoring this season with 30 points on 13 goals and four assists. Monroe ranked just behind Rigamat with 28 points (12g, 4a) and led the Bruins in game-winning goals with six. Both were candidates for the Hermann Trophy, given to the top player in college soccer.

Midfielder Sarah-Gayle Swanson (Denver, Colo.) and defender Krista Boling (San Jose, Calif.) were named to the second team. Boling started 22 of 23 matches for the Bruins and was instrumental in helping the Bruin defense rank No. 1 in the Pac-10 in goals against average (0.59), posting 12 shutouts in the process. Swanson led the team with six assists and finished the season with 10 points.

UCLA concluded its 2001 season on Dec. 2 with a 1-0 double-overtime loss to the University of Florida in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
