Walnut Creek, CA - UCLA senior Jeanette Antolin has been named the Pacific-10 Gymnast of the Week for February 17-24, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Antolin, hailing from Huntington Beach, CA, led the No. 1 Bruins to a 198.875-197.175 record-setting victory over Oregon State Feb. 20. The UCLA team tied the all-time national scoring record, set just two days earlier by Stanford, with 198.875. Antolin won the all-around competition with a score of 39.875, a career-high and the fifth-highest score in NCAA history. She scored perfect 10s on the vault and floor exercise, and tied her career-high on the uneven bars with a 9.975.
Antolin, a 2003 All-Pac-10 selection and All- American, currently sits atop the national rankings with an regional qualifying score of 39.75. She also ranks first on vault, second on the uneven bars, ninth on balance beam and third on floor exercise. This is Antolin's first Gymnast of the Week honor this season and the third for the UCLA Bruins.
The Bruins are headed to Washington to take on the No. 15 Huskies this Friday. The meet will be televised on a delayed basis on Fox Sports Northwest and Fox Sports West 2.
