Mayorkas Advances to Third Round at U.S. Women's Amateur

UCLA All-American Charlotte Mayorkas rallied and won a 19-hole thriller Thursday in the second round of match play at the 103rd U.S. Women's Amateur, hosted by the USGA at the Philadelphia Country Club.

Mayorkas, 19, defeated Brittany Lang of McKinney, Texas, 1-up. The UCLA junior squared the match with a birdie at the par four 10th hole and moved ahead 1-up with another birdie at the par three 11th. The two players halved the next three holes. Mayorkas moved ahead by two holes with a par at the par three 15th. But Lang cut that lead in half with a par at the 16th when Mayorkas bogeyed. Mayorkas still had a one hole lead after the players halved the 17th. At the 18th hole, Lang squared the match with a clutch birdie. Mayorkas' par at the 19th hole (#1) beat Lang's bogey for the final 1-up result.
