No. 3 Bruins hold off Princeton

March 13, 2004

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UCLA Women's Water Polo team held off a fourth period Princeton rally to defeat the Tigers 9-8. It was UCLA's second game of the day, earlier the Bruins defeated No. 13 UC San Diego 11-2. UCLA is now 11-3 (3-1) on the season and will return to action on March 27 at the Rainbow Classic in Hawaii.

After jumping out to a 5-2 lead after one half and then extending the lead to 9-5 after the third period it appeared the Bruins had the game in hand. However, Princeton would score three unanswered goals in the fourth period to pull within one with 32 seconds left. The Bruins were then able to hold onto the lead and earn the 9-8 victory.

Kristina Kunkel had her second hat trick of the day and Katherine Belden and Molly Cahill scored twice. Jenna Murphy and Brittney Bowlus each added one goal to round out the Bruin scoring effort.
