The UCLA men's soccer team, which participated in the NCAA College Cup a week ago, placed five members on the 1999 NSCAA All-Far West team.

Senior midfielder Sasha Victorine (Corona, Calif./Rio Americano HS) and junior defender Carlos Bocanegra (Alta Loma, Calif./Alta Loma HS) repeated as first-team selections. Junior goalkeeper Nick Rimando (Montclair, Calif./Montclair HS), senior defender Steve Shak (Cerritos, Calif./Gahr HS) and senior midfielder Pete Vagenas (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis HS) earned second-team honors.

Victorine, who also earned first-team All-America honors, was selected as the 1999 NSCAA/Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year, as well as the MPSF Pacific Division Player of the Year. He led UCLA this season with a career-high 33 points (12g, 9a). Victorine was a second-team selection as a freshman in 1996.

Bocanegra, who was a second-team All-America and first-team All-MPSF pick, earned his second consecutive All-Far West nod despite missing eight games with a knee injury. He finished the year with two goals and two assists and solidified his reputation as one of the nation's top defenders.

First-team All-MPSF goalkeeper Rimando set a school record this year with 19 victories. He posted a goals against average of 0.78 and lowered his career GAA to 0.67, second-best in UCLA history. Rimando was a first-team All-Far West and second-team All-American pick a year ago.

Shak and Vagenas earned their first career all-region honors. Shak had a solid year, helping the Bruins post nine shutouts and scoring his first career goals. Vagenas, a team co-captain along with Victorine, recorded career-highs in points (17) and assists (11). Vagenas also moved into fifth place in the UCLA record books with 30 career assists. Both Shak and Vagenas were first-team All-MPSF selections.
