Bruins Head to Virginia for Nike Soccer Classic . . .
The third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team faces its first true test of the 2004 season this week, heading to the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic in Charlottesville, Va. The Bruins begin play against No. 9 Virginia on Friday at 7:00 p.m. (EST). The two teams have met twice before, with both matches going into overtime. In 2002, UCLA edged Virginia, 4-3 in Los Angeles. Back in 1995, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at a neutral site. On Sunday, the Bruins take on Maryland at Noon (EST). UCLA defeated the Terrapins, 1-0 back in 1999, the only prior meeting between the two teams.

Bruins Post 6-1 Decision Over UCSB . . .
Senior Kim Devine registered a hat trick, while sophomore Bristyn Davis had two goals and an assist in UCLA's 6-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, helping the Bruins improve to 3-0 on the year. UCLA took the lead from the start, as Davis scored the game's first goal just 58 seconds after play began. In addition to Devine and Davis, freshman Danesha Adams continued her outstanding play, pushing her team-leading point total to 11, finishing the match with a goal and an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Valerie Henderson got the start, giving up just one goal in 70 minutes of action.

Players of the Week . . .
UCLA has swept both Pac-10 Player of the Week honors so far in 2004. Freshman Danesha Adams took home the honor last week after scoring four goals in wins over San Diego and LMU to begin the year. Kim Devine was awarded the honor this week following her three-goal performance against UCSB. Devine tallied all three of her goals in a span of three minutes and 25 seconds.
