Heidi Moneymaker Selected Region 1 Gymnast of the Year

April 5, 2000

UCLA All-American Heidi Moneymaker has been named the Region 1 Gymnast of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Moneymaker, a senior team co-captain from Santa Rosa, CA (Montgomery HS/Rohnert Park Gymnastics), won the floor exercise with a career-best score of 9.95 at the NCAA Region 1 Championships last week. She also placed second in the all-around with a mark of 39.575 and third on bars and fifth on vault and beam with marks of 9.875. Moneymaker earlier won the Pac-10 floor title and was voted the Conference Gymnast of the Year. This season, she set a new school record in the all-around (39.775) and became the first gymnast in school history to record multiple 10.0s on one event when she twice scored perfect marks on the vault.

Last season, Moneymaker also earned Region 1 Gymnast of the Year honors after winning the all-around and vault titles at the Regional Championship.

California head coach Trina Tinti, a former Bruin gymnast, earned Region 1 Coach of the Year honors. Cal State Fullerton's Martha Grace was selected the region's assistant coach of the year, and Oregon State Associate Athletic Director Marianne Vydra was named the Region 1 Administrator of the Year.
