Bruin Golfers are Tied for Ninth after Day One

UCLA's second-ranked women's golf team was tied for ninth place after the first round of the 25th NCAA Women's Golf Championship, hosted by The Ohio State University at its Scarlet Course.

The national championship tournament is a 72-hole event over four days.

The Bruins carded a team score of 13-over par 301 and were deadlocked with Purdue, Auburn and Pepperdine. USC posted a score of 291 (+3) and held the early lead, followed by Arizona State at 292 (+4), Florida at 293 (+5) and Arizona at 296 (+8). Wake Forest and Duke were tied for fifth at 297 (+9), followed by LSU in seventh at 298 (+10) and Arkansas at 299 (+11).

Freshman Tiffany Joh led the Bruins on Tuesday with a one-under par score of 71. Joh played the outward nine in one-over par 37, got as low as two-under on the day before finishing with a 71. She was tied for fourth, three strokes off the lead.

Junior Hannah Jun, in her second competition after a serious neck injury, carded a 76 (+4) and was tied for 46th. Senior Susie Mathews and freshman Jane Park each posted a 77 (+5) and were tied for 70th. Mathews, one-under par through 14 holes, played the final four holes in six-over par. Park mad two birdies and seven bogeys on the day. Sophomore Amie Cochran signed for a 78 (+6) and was tied for 86th.

Pepperdine's Eileen Vargas was the first round individual leader after posting a 68 (-4).
