Senior Erik Emilsson, a 2005 NCAA Outdoor All-American, placed third in the 1500m, running 3:51.27 (3:49.14 in prelims) at the Swedish National Championships, earning him a spot at the Sweden/Finland Dual Meet.
The first 800m of the race was at a slow pace, but at the bell lap runners began to pick up the pace. Emilsson was in the lead with 250m to go, but was passed by two other runners in the final 100m of the race. His performance earned him a spot in the national dual meet between Sweden and Finland next weekend.
"I was pleased with my performance and look forward to the dual meet against Finland next weekend," said Emilsson.
At the dual meet, Emilsson will run both the steeple (Saturday, September 3) and 1500m (Sunday, September 4). He will also compete in Copenhagen on Wednesday, August 24.
In June, Emilsson earned his first Outdoor All-American honor of his career with an eighth-place finish in the steeple (8:34.80). During that meet, he dropped nearly six seconds off his lifetime best.
