Freshman guard Nikki Blue (Bakersfield, CA/West HS) of the UCLA Women's Basketball Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 13-20.
Blue led UCLA to a 60-58 road victory over Arizona State last Thursday, scoring a career-high 30 points on 12-23 shooting from the field. Her point total was three away from the UCLA freshman record for single-game points. Blue scored 21 of her 30 points in the second half, including the Bruins' final 14 points of the game and 19 of the last 21. In addition, she grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had three steals and two assists in 34 minutes of play.
Against 21st-ranked Arizona on Saturday, Blue led the Bruins again with 19 points. She also added six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 34 minutes.
Blue leads the Bruin squad with 87 rebounds and 56 assists and ranks second on the team in scoring with a 15.4 points per game average.
This is Blue's first UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
