UCLA Home to Meet Washington Schools - On Friday at 7:00 pm, the Bruins will host Washington State University (2-18, 0-10) at 7 p.m. UCLA owns a 25-6 advantage in the series. The Bruins captured the first meeting of this season in Pullman on January 6, 76-64. UCLA rallied after being down by seven points at halftime behind the play of Shalada Allen and Natalie Nakase. Allen scored 12 second-half points. Nakase totaled a career-high 24 for the game. WSU is coming off a 75-68 loss to Washington.

UCLA hosts Washington on Sunday at 11:00 am. The Huskies (11-8, 6-4) bested Washington State in Pullman, 75-68, last Friday. Washington won the first matchup of the season against the Bruins in Seattle, 86-53 on January 4. It was UCLA's first game without Kristee Porter in the lineup. Washington scored the final 10 points of the first half in that game and never looked back. Allen scored 16 points to lead UCLA. Washington leads the all-time series with UCLA by a 22-11 count.

Radio/TV - Both games will be broadcast live on KACD 850 am (Thousand Oaks) and KEWS 1350 am (Riverside), as well as on the internet at www.uclabruins.com. In addition, Fox Sports 1150 am will air the USC game on Feb. 9, the Cal game on Feb. 22 and the Stanford game on Feb. 24. Fox Sports Net will televise the Washington game at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Notes - Natalie Nakase recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-best 11 rebounds against Arizona ...Nakase has converted 28 of her last 33 free throws over the last seven games to improve her average to .766 ... When Nakase recorded eight assists in the loss at Oregon, it marked the sixth time this season she has had at least eight assists in a game ... Whitney Jones scored a season-high 15 points in the loss to Arizona State then followed it up with 17 points against Arizona ... Jones also tied her season best with nine rebounds against the Wildcats ...Jamila Veasley had a career-best five steals in her start against ASU ... For the second consecutive year, the Bruins lead the Pac-10 Conference in steals, averaging 10.47 steals a game. UCLA ranks second in turnover margin, with a +4.05 margin ... Individually, Nakase ranks third in assists (5.58), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.77), ninth in steals (1.84) and 10th in free throw percentage (.766) ... Jones ranks fifth in steals (2.07) ...Malika Leatham ranks 11th in rebounding (6.2) ... The Bruins have added Brittany Ringel, a 6-1 freshman forward from Arlington, TX (Trinity Valley HS) to the roster. She began practice with the team on Jan. 8. Ringel is also a member of the UCLA volleyball team and played a reserve role at the outside hitter position this past season.

Greco To Sit Out Rest of Season - It was announced on Wednesday, December 12 that Bruin leading scorer Michelle Greco will not participate for the remainder of the current season for medical reasons. Due to a history of mild concussions during her sophomore and junior year, the UCLA Medical Staff believes that Greco should take a year off from competition. At the conclusion of the 2001-02 season, UCLA will submit a medical hardship petition to the Pacific-10 Conference with the hope that Greco will be granted another year of collegiate eligibility.

Porter To Pursue Professional Volleyball Opportunities - Junior forward Kristee Porter has left UCLA (as of Jan. 4) to pursue professional and U.S. national team opportunities in volleyball. Porter averaged 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in five games with the Bruins. She joined the team after volleyball season Dec. 8 and scored nine points with five rebounds in her final game at Cal, Dec. 30. Porter's season-best total was 20 points against Oregon State on Dec. 22. Porter, the UCLA and Pac-10 career kills record-holder, was a two-time volleyball All-American and the 2000 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year.

Oregon to Host First Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament - The 2001-02 season will conclude with the first-ever Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament to be hosted by Oregon on March 1-4. All conference schools will participate in the tournament, with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid to the 2002 NCAA tournament. The team that finishes the regular season atop the Pac-10 standings, based on the results of the double round robin play, is the conference champion.

2001-02 Game Recaps

Ducks Rally Past Bruins - Oregon used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to open up a working margin and went on to defeat UCLA 76-54 in Eugene. The Bruins, who led 27-26 at the half, were paced by Natalie Nakase, who had 14 points and handed out eight assists. Whitney Jones added 12, and Shalada Allen had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
