LOS ANGELES - The seventh-ranked UCLA men's tennis team started off the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships on a good note Friday, defeating No. 10 LSU, 4-2 in opening-round action at the Seattle Tennis Club. UCLA claimed the doubles point when the Bruins' No. 3 team of Mathieu Dehaine and Aaron Yovan downed LSU's James Cluskey/Paul White, 8-5. Philipp Gruendler and Benjamin Kohlloeffel got things started for the Bruins, upsetting 10th-ranked Mark Growcott/Ken Skupski, 8-4 at court No. 1.

The Tigers cut the lead to 3-2 when James Cluskey downed Bruin freshman Michael Look, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at court No. 6. The Bruins, however, were in control of both remaining matches. Freshman Haythem Abid ended up clinching the win for UCLA at court No. 2, posting a 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(3) victory over Growcott. UCLA's Philipp Gruendler had a match point and was up 5-2 against Danny Bryan at court No. 5 when play was suspended.
