LOS ANGELES (AP) - Freshman Arron Afflalo snapped a tie on a 3-pointer with 1:42 remaining and UCLA defeated Oregon State 69-61 Thursday night to shore up its bid for an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament.

The Bruins (17-9) also helped their seeding in next week's Pac-10 tournament at Staples Center. Their third straight win moved them into a third-place tie with Stanford at 10-7. The Cardinal lost to Washington State 59-48 Thursday night.

The Beavers (16-12, 8-9) will make the eight-team conference tournament, but the loss didn't help their NCAA tourney chances.

Freshman Jordan Farmar led UCLA with 23 points and assisted on Afflalo's 3-pointer that put the Bruins ahead for good. Dijon Thompson added 18 points and Afflalo had 12 points and nine rebounds.

David Lucas led Oregon State with 24 points. J.S. Nash had 11 rebounds.

The teams played a tight second half, with neither leading by more than five points.

Lucas tied the game at 59 on two free throws, then Lamar Hurd scored inside to put the Beavers ahead 61-59. Hurd fouled Farmar, who made both for the final tie of the game at 61.

After Nick DeWitz missed, Farmar fired a pass to Afflalo near UCLA's bench and he hit the 3 for a 64-61 lead. Thompson made three free throws in a row and Farmar hit two free throws to seal the win.

Nash missed with just over a minute left, then Jason Fontenet's 3-point attempt bounced off the side of the rim with 40 seconds left.

The Bruins were 19-of-22 from the free throw line in the second half, which made up for their 37 percent field-goal shooting.
