UCLA (27-24, 8-8) rallied from a 7-4 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning to even the score at 7-7, but Washington State (26-20, 6-10) scored three in the top of the tenth inning to take a 10-9 victory.
Trailing 7-4 heading into the eighth inning, the Bruins would load the bases with one out on three walks. Brett McMillan would hit a double to left center to bring all three runners home and tie the score at 7-7.
The Cougars would threaten in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out. However, Bruin reliever Kevin Brophy would strikeout Justin Hart and force Brandon Reddinger to pop up to first base to get out of the jam.
In the top of the tenth, Washington State scored three runs to take a 10-7 lead. A single from Grant Richardson would bring two runs in before Collin Henderson added another with a double.
UCLA would then threaten to even the score once again in the bottom of the inning. Jarrad Page was issued a leadoff walk before pinch-hitter Billy Susdorf laid down a bunt single. McMillan would single to load the bases with no outs. Back-to-back sacrifice flies from Ryan McCarthy and Wes Whisler brought Page and Susdorf home. However, McMillan would be stranded at second after a strikeout ended the game.
McMillan finished the night going 3-for-6 and driving in three runs. McCarthy hit his tenth homer of the season in the contest and knocked in two Bruins. Page was 2-for-2 on the night with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Bruins and Cougars will face-off in a 1:00 showdown on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
