The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in second place after the first day of competition at the 20th Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships, hosted by the University of Arizona at Oro Valley Country Club.
The Bruins posted a team score of 291 (+3) and trailed first place Arizona State by four shots. The Sun Devils posted a score of 287 (-1). USC was third at 293 (+5), followed by California at 296 (+8) and Stanford at 299 (+11).
"We had an interesting day," said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. "We didn't play our best, but we were able to get some good scores. One of our players (Jane Park) was real sick and ended up shooting only two-over par."
Park, a freshman, was tied for 17th place at 74 (+2) despite her health issues. Tiffany Joh, another UCLA freshman, led the Bruins with a 71 (-1) and was tied for third. Sophomore Amie Cochran and senior Susie Mathews were tied for ninth after signing for 73s. Freshman Ryann O'Toole carded a 78 (+6) and was tied for 33rd.
Washington State's Ana Kostina and Arizona State's Azahara Munoz were tied for first place after each posting a 70 (-2).
