LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Senior Adam Wright scored three goals and Brian Brown and Jon Puffer scored twice to lead the Bruins to their first win of the season over Princeton, 13-3. The Bruins outshot Princeton 27-12 to improve to 1-1 on the season. The Tigers drop to 3-2 overall.
Andy Bailey started the scoring for the Bruins, scoring an extra man goal with 5:21 remaining in the first period. Wright scored his first two goals on lob shots over Princeton goalie Jon Pharris to increase the lead to 3-0 with 2:35 left in the first period. Brian Brown rounded out the UCLA scoring in the first quarter.
Kevin Foster scored Princeton's first goal of the game at 5:14 in the second period. At 4:09, UCLA's Matt Flesher scored his first goal of the season. Bruin Jeff Pflueger put in a Dave Parker rebound to extend the UCLA lead to 6-1. Wright scored off of a pass by Bailey at 1:27, and freshman Albert Garcia scored the first goal of his career with 0:35 left in the half.
Alfonso Tucay put in the first goal of his career to open the third period. Brian Brown and Jon Puffer scored in the third to extend the UCLA lead, 11-1. Puffer tallied his second goal of the game with 5:37 in the fourth period. Princeton's Chris Gratian scored on a breakaway to cut the lead to 12-2. Ryan Brown scored the first goal of his career to cap the Bruin scoring. Robert Urquhart scored Princeton's third goal of the game with 1:58 remaining.
UCLA continues play this weekend as it travels to the Southern California Tournament at Corona del Mar High School. On Saturday, the Bruins will take on Long Beach State at 12:25 p.m., and UC Santa Barbara at 4:45 p.m. Princeton will play Long Beach State at 5 p.m. today.
