Los Angeles - UCLA seniors Chris Jensen and Andrea Duran have earned CoSIDA District 8 First-Team Academic All-America honors for baseball and softball respectively, and advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America national ballot. The First-Team District 8 selection is the third-consecutive of Duran's career and the first for Jensen.
Jensen, from San Diego, Calif., was a 2005 First-Team All-Pac-10 All Academic selection, and a Second-Team All-Pac-10 All Academic selection in 2004. Jensen has started all 45 games for the Bruins in right field, helping UCLA to a 25-20 record. At the plate, Jensen is hitting .313 (57-182) with four home runs, 26 RBI and a team-leading 36 runs scored. Jensen owns a 3.5 GPA as a civil engineering student.
Duran, from Selma, Calif., earned First-Team All-Pac-10 and Third-Team Easton All-America honors in 2005. She is the only player in the nation to be named National Player of the Week twice, and has earned Pac-10 Player of the Week three times. On the season, Duran has helped the Bruins to a 42-5 record and a No. 1 national ranking as UCLA's third baseman. Duran is the team's top hitter with a .353 (55-156) average, and leads the team with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, 48 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. In the classroom, Duran owns a 3.50 GPA while studying sociology.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America selections for baseball will be announced on Tuesday, May 30, and on Wednesday, May 31 for softball.
