Cyndi Gallagher's women's swimming and diving team will resume Pac-10 action this Friday and Saturday as they host Arizona State and Arizona. The Bruins will take on the Sundevils at 2:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 19 (diving at 1:00 pm) and the Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 12:00 pm. All swimming events will be held at Men's Gym Pool, while the diving will take place at Sunset Recreation Center.
Last season, the Bruins split against the Arizona schools, picking up a victory against ASU (186-114) and narrowly falling to Arizona 154-145. UCLA holds a 13-8-1 record over the Sundevils and a 14-8 record over the Wildcats.
This season, the Bruins have been dominate, with victories over UCSB (156-98), Oregon State (149-18), and the University of San Diego (168-85). UCLA also finished fourth at the Purdue Invitational two weeks ago against tough competition they will see at the National meet.
Junior Kim Vandenberg has led the Bruins this season and is the only swimmer with an "A" standard this season (200 Fly, 1:55.69), and also has "B" standards in the 50 Free (23.30), 100 Fly (54.10) and 200 Free (1:50.29). In all, UCLA has picked up 14 NCAA qualifying marks as well as three NCAA Zone E Championships qualifiers in diving - senior Janine Strack, and juniors Amanda Blong and Paige Thompson.
The Bruins will take two weeks off as they prepare for their next meet. The swimmers will head to Federal Way, WA and the Husky Invitational December 2-5, while the divers will head to Austin, TX and the Texas Invitational December 2-4.
