Bruins Move to No. 1

March 20, 2002

Los Angeles - For the first time this season, the UCLA men's tennis team is ranked No. 1 in the country, as the Bruins moved up two spots in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings released Wednesday. In addition to men's tennis, three other UCLA teams are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation, as the Bruins' women's gymnastics, men's volleyball and softball teams are all top-ranked.

UCLA (14-1, 1-0 Pac-10) has been ranked in the top-5 all season and started the year at No. 3 in the preseason rankings. The Bruins' only loss this year was to cross-town rival USC at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors back on Feb. 7.

Individually, Bruin sophomore Tobias Clemens is UCLA's highest ranked singles player at No. 6 in the nation. Following Clemens are No. 23 Marcin Matkowski and No. 35 Rodrigo Grilli.
