Six Women's Soccer Players Earn All-Pac-10 Honors

Nov. 20, 2002

LOS ANGELES - UCLA Women's soccer players Whitney Jones, Jill Oakes and Nandi Pryce headlined a total of six Bruin players honored by the Pac-10 Wednesday in its list of year-end awards.

Jones, Oakes and Pryce were UCLA's first-team All-Pac-10 selections. Sarah-Gayle Swanson and Iris Mora were named to All-Pac-10 Second Team, while Kathryn Lee was an honorable mention selection.

Jones, a junior midfielder from San Clemente, Calif., has started 20 of 21 matches this season, recording five points on a goal and three assists. Most recently, she scored in the Bruins' victory over LMU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2001.

Oakes, a freshman midfielder from West Hills, Calif., was one of only two freshmen named to the first team. She has played in 19 matches this year, missing the Bruins' season opener while helping the Under-19 U.S. National Team to the World Cup title in August. Oakes, who was the unanimous No. 1 recruit in the nation last year, currently has 10 points (3g, 4a).

Pryce, a junior defender from Casselberry, Fla., has started 20 matches this season, missing one match after being called up for training camp with the Full U.S. National Team. She has helped the UCLA defense post 12 shutouts, while giving up just 13 goals all season. She was recently named one of 15 finalists for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, given to the player of the year in college soccer.

Swanson, a junior midfielder from Denver, ranks second on the team in scoring with 19 points (9g, 1a). She leads the team in goals (9) and game-winning goals (5). She was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2001.

Mora, a freshman forward from Cancun, Mexico, currently has 14 points on seven goals. She was the team leader in scoring before missing seven matches while playing for Mexico in the 2002 Gold Cup.

Lee, a junior defender from Stockton, Calif., has started 20 of 21 matches this year, helping the Bruin defense post 12 shutouts.
