UCLA Men's Water Polo Tabbed Third in 2006 MPSF Preseason Coaches' Poll

Woodland, Calif. - UCLA's men's water polo team has been ranked third in the MPSF preseason coaches' poll, the MPSF conference announced Monday afternoon. The Bruins earned 54 points in the poll and one first-place vote. UCLA is ranked behind defending national champion USC and California, respectively.

USC and Cal each accumulated four first-place votes and finished one point apart in the preseason poll (USC, 58; Cal, 57). The Trojans return as the reigning MPSF and NCA Champions from the 2005 season. California, who comes out of the shoot ranked No. 2 for the second-consecutive year, finished fifth in the MPSF last season.

Stanford earns the No. 4 spot after finishing third in the conference last year. Pepperdine is ranked fifth after finishing sixth in 2005, followed by No. 6 Pacific and last year's MPSF runner-up UC Irvine in the No. 7 slot. Eighth-ranked Santa Barbara moves up one notch above the Gauchos' ninth-place finish from 2006, and Long Beach State comes in with the No. 9 ranking after an eighth-place finish last season.
