Bruin freshman Keira Goerl was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for April 23-29, conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Goerl pitched 19 of a possible 29 innings last week, pitching in four games while recording 12 strikeouts and allowing just four hits. She started the week with three perfect innings in UCLA,s 12-0 five-inning win at UC Riverside, then followed with a 2-0 complete-game win against No. 4 California, a game in which she held the Golden Bears hitless for 5 and two-thirds innings.
On Saturday against No. 3 Stanford, Goerl pitched a second complete game in UCLA's 8-0 five-inning win. Sunday wrapped up the weekend with Goerl pitching four hitless innings against the Cardinal to earn her 21st win of the season in UCLA's 2-0 win. For the week, batters hit just .063 against Goerl. She is 21-1 on the season with an 0.98 ERA.
The second-ranked Bruins return to action on Wednesday afternoon with a single game at Washington. UCLA will then return to Easton Stadium for their final regular season homestand against Oregon and Oregon State.
